Kilinochchi District is part of Sri Lanka’s Northern Province and features rural landscapes, reservoirs and a developing northern travel route. It is mainly visited by travellers exploring the north by road between Vavuniya and Jaffna, with opportunities to experience local communities and quieter countryside. Kilinochchi town and Iranamadu Tank are key reference points in the district, while Elephant Pass connects the area towards the Jaffna Peninsula. The district is often experienced as part of an overland northern journey, with lagoons, open landscapes and rural communities between Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Jaffna.
