Pinnawala is a village in Kegalle District best known for elephant-related visitor attractions and its location on the route between Colombo and Kandy. The surrounding area also offers river scenery and rural landscapes, making it a common stop on journeys into Sri Lanka’s central hills. Pinnawala is close to Rambukkana and Kegalle and sits on a popular overland route between Colombo and Kandy. The surrounding countryside includes rivers, plantations and small towns, so the area can be used as a short stop before continuing towards Kandy, Peradeniya or the central highlands.
