Polonnaruwa District is a historic and wildlife-rich region in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa is its cultural highlight, while Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks, reservoirs and rural scenery make the district ideal for combining heritage with safari experiences. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa is the district’s main heritage attraction, while Minneriya and Kaudulla add major wildlife experiences. Reservoirs, farming villages and dry-zone forests surround the area, and the district connects naturally with Habarana, Sigiriya and the wider Cultural Triangle.
