Sri Lanka’s Western Province includes Colombo, Negombo and much of the country’s main international gateway region. It combines city life, beaches, wetlands, shopping, dining and transport connections, making it the starting or finishing point for many Sri Lanka itineraries. Colombo is the province’s main urban centre, while Negombo, Mount Lavinia and the Kalutara coast provide beach and lagoon experiences. The region also contains the country’s principal international airport and major road links, making it the usual starting point for journeys towards Kandy, the Cultural Triangle and the south coast.
