Yala National Park is Sri Lanka’s best-known safari destination, famous for its diverse wildlife and dry-zone landscapes. Visitors may see elephants, crocodiles, deer, birds and, with luck, leopards while exploring forests, grasslands, lagoons and rocky coastline on guided game drives. Tissamaharama is one of the most common bases for safari trips, with Kirinda and the southern coastline nearby. Bundala National Park and Kataragama can also be combined with Yala, allowing travellers to mix wildlife drives with wetlands, pilgrimage sites and coastal scenery in the southeast.
